Maze+ making over $800 per day!

by treysmith on September 12, 2011

Hey Guys,

HUGE update today.  As I’ve mentioned before, if you have in app purchases in your iPhone App then you get a “snowball effect” after a few days.

Here’s what I mean:

If you are giving your app away for free, like I did with Maze+, then you’ll rack up a TON of downloads.

Some people will buy something inside your app immediately, others might wait a few days… or even a month.

The cool thing about this is you always have a BIG SURGE of cash come in after you get a ton of downloads.

Like an after shock.

Actually, after shock sounds 10X cooler than “snowball effect”, so let’s call it that ;)

I was hoping I would have an AFTER SHOCK this weekend so I could report something cool, but I had no clue this would happen:

This isn’t even including Jump Pack, my other games, money from iAds or Linkshare.  Including everything I did about $6100 just on Saturday & Sunday!  That is AFTER paying Apple.

 Now, here’s the cool part:

Yesterday I made just as much money as Saturday, even though I had 26,000 less downloads.

That’s because of the after shock *RUMBLE*… chances are I’ll have a big day today as well.

Here are the total numbers for Maze+ so far:

So far Maze+ has made $9,774.79 averaging $815 per day.  Awesome!  This is more profitable than Jump Pack was on release and I have no doubt our next app Dragon Run will eclipse this one.  That’s the App Network in effect.

Now this is weird (but in an awesome way.  It’s awsome weird).

Up until the launch of Maze+ I had gotten around 900,000 downloads of all my apps.

And here this one app comes along and racks up 631,000 downloads all by itself.  Believe it or not, I’m on track to break 2,000,000 total downloads by the end of this week!

I contribute the insanely large downloads to two things:

1. The game was multiplayer… so people were telling their friends

2. It was a success internationally.  I actually made more money in Australia than the U.S.!

If you’ve watched any of my webinars, you’ve probably heard me talk about the Nag Screen.  A nag screen is a full page banner ad in your app.  People see it when they open up the app for the first time.

Let me show you how powerful that is!

Jump Pack had sort of died down… I was getting ready for the launch of Maze+ and wasn’t promoting it hard, updating or any of the other things you’re supposed to do :)

Then I put it on the nag screen for Maze+.

So all 600,000 people who clicked on the nag screen saw an ad for Jump Pack.

The funny thing is, like usual we kinda botched it.  You actually couldn’t read all the text on the nag screen… But who cares, it still made a bunch of money!

I setup the nag screen to point to Jump Pack on Wednesday September 7th:

As you can see we had a bunch of downloads on Wednesday, but hardly any sales.  I was still waiting for the… wait for itAFTER SHOCK *RUMBLE*.

Thursday I started seeing sales… and was really curious how high it could go.  Then by far the biggest day was yesterday at $659.  I’m hoping to break that today!

This is the absolute MOST FUN I’ve ever had in business!

:BIG ANNOUNCEMENT:

I’ve decided that I’m going to slowly move my business 100% into making iPhone Apps.

This market is so new (and profitable) that I would be absolutely crazy to not jump in full force… It’s just the right time to do it.

I’ve been staying up super late toying around with numbers and created a plan to build this into a $100,000 per month business in the next 6-8 months.

I’m going to share it with some of you guys on a private webinar for free.  Look out for details later this week!

Thanks for being a subscriber and/or blog reader!  Even when I quit teaching this stuff, I’ll still keep this blog going because YOU GUYS ROCK.

Talk soon,

Trey

Hey Trey I am running an iPhone app business but have taken a different approach going for the long tail rather than hit apps. I’m making $10K a month in profit. I would love to be involved teaching people how to build an app business. I did it from scratch while unemployed.

Anyway that’s fantastic to see the results your getting and it’s encouraging to see what’s possible.

Trey, I really appreciate the follow up on your apps with REAL numbers. This stuff is super powerful and I think can really help guide your students into learning from your mistaks and successes. Keep us in the loop on how things progress!

Could you shed any light onto what types of in game purchases have been purchased in your apps for the above numbers?

Trey that’s awesome!
I’ve yet to even find the time to watch your webinar never mind buy into it. I will be trying a bit harder because I need to understand a few things. I’m new to marketing and have only purchased one corse when I started. In that course there are a list of sites to help you build an app. From what I’ve seen they are charging a small monthly fee like $39 and you send them your blueprint of what you want and they handle the rest. Is that like a programer and what they would do for ya? I guess these sites have limited formats and cant get all crazy with graphics as what they use for platforms is probably limited..
I wish I had more time! But that’s why we all want out of our jobs lol

Im not sure what happened, but I downloaded Maze+ last week (didnt know it was yours) it was at the top of the free downloads section here in australia. HOWEVER, I downloaded it and tried to play it and all I got was the nag screen for jump pack, I ended up deleting it. Unless its because I am one os update behind, that could be it, but I will go try it again as now I know its yours.

treysmith September 12, 2011 at 5:58 pm

At the bottom of the jump pack ad you click the “tap here continue” bar then you play… that’s just a banner ad :)

Trey bro….congrats on your success man….I hear ya. Sounds like you’re having so much fun with the new business.

Hey Trey, so I keep getting pummeled with JV partners of your promoting 1 iphone apps webinar after another and haven’t had the time to watch them.

You usually have really good content on them and I wanted to see the free content webinar you had for the iphone apps…..as I have 2 kids who already want me to make an app for them.

Can you point me in the right direction…?

Thanks and mucho gracias amigo!!!

Well done. You mention you are going to focus solely on the Apple iphone market. Is it worth considering the Android market too?

Reply

justin September 12, 2011 at 6:35 pm

Duh, android market is HUGE, so defin yes!

Reply

Daniel September 13, 2011 at 6:23 pm

Android Market is bigger than iPhone. It’s really big in Europe now, and on the up everyone else.

Most developers will code your iPhone app into Android. I’d imagine it’s probably less than the cost of the initial app, given the graphics are probably the same. I’m talking from 0% experience in the Android marketing, but just talk about it to your dev. I’m sure he knows.

Thanks for sharing!

Wait, is there some way you can make money off of Apple through Linkshare? I guess I didn’t follow that “this isn’t even including Jump Pack, my other games, money from iAds or Linkshare” part. Or is it unrelated to your app empire entirely? Also: you rock. Hope you see this. Thanks!

Reply

treysmith September 12, 2011 at 6:03 pm

Good eye ;) I go over this in my course, but link share is the affiliate network that apple officially uses for the app store.

awesome I saw you were number #4 in free download so I was wondering how much you would end up making. Was FAAD the big thing to help it just start or was multiplayer and Word of mouth it. Just curious!!!

Would love to work with you on a kick-ass audio/motion graphic trailer for one of your apps. I’m currently building a portfolio, so give me a shout if you fancy outsourcing some audio branding and motion graphics stuff.

It’ll be great to hear how Maze+ pans out by the end of the month – good luck.

Hey Trey … no you rock … congrats on the continued success. I really appreciate how simple you make things in your training (Frank too). I have all kinds of ideas for apps just need to find the right programmer to partner with or hire. We content and creative ideas out our ears … Western history, sports, books multiple genres, horse racing, rodeo, and more that I know will make great apps. Figuring out which one to start with is the challenge. Hope to be sharing similar success stories shortly.

Greg, when you release an ap it gos on the app section for anyone with iphone or ipod touch, so people buy it on there, or as trey did, release a free one and advertise your paid games on there.

I plan to begin toggling them from paid to free next week with nag screens for the paid ones each time a paid one goes free. Should be a nice kick up from that in revenue and downloads. Looking forward to your webinar to get more tips because I think I can get in the top 25 financial apps ranking and stay there with your marketing ideas and a few of my own. This is fun…

Trey,

I’d say I’ve listened in on your free webinar about the iPhone System about five times. Maybe more. You gave away so much in those sessions I was able to get my first game built and now have 3 apps about to hit the App Store this month. My own little network of games. I was really tempted to take your course but decided to run with your “free line” and make it happen on my own. I can’t wait to start seeing the sales come in…and now you’re holding another webinar with even more free info?

You’re insane and I love it. Peace.
